My 4-Year-Old Son Got Extremely Upset Every Time My MIL Babysat Him – When I Found Out Why, I Got Revenge

I always thought my mother-in-law, Denise, was a bit overbearing, but I figured it was just her protectiveness of her grandson, Leo. She had a commanding presence, especially after her husband passed, and she reclaimed her role as the head librarian. Despite her moods, she was reliable and often helped watch Leo when I worked at the hospital.
Recently, though, Leo started acting strangely around her, avoiding her and even crying when she was about to babysit. One night, just before I left for work, Leo confessed, “Grandma acts strange.” He was scared because Denise had been trying to put cotton buds in his mouth, claiming it was for a DNA test. Furious, I confronted Denise, and she admitted it was because she was suspicious about Leo’s blonde hair and whether he was really Andrew’s.
After discussing it with Andrew, we decided to take a DNA test for Leo. To our shock, the test revealed that Andrew’s biological father wasn’t the man he’d thought. Denise had had an affair, and Andrew wasn’t her husband’s biological son. This revelation shattered their family, and we agreed to focus on our son and distance ourselves from her.
Denise’s guilt over the affair had led her to project her insecurities onto us. Despite everything, we moved forward, focusing on our family and healing.
