My Twin Sister Passed Away in a Car Crash Ten Years Ago – Last Monday, a Dentist’s Office Called and Asked Me to Pick Her Up

Ten years after my twin sister Clara died in a fiery car crash, a dentist’s office called and asked me to pick her up.

Then they put her on the phone.

“Sarah? Please come get me.”

I recognized her voice instantly. At the office, Clara proved her identity by revealing childhood secrets only we knew. She explained that she had survived the crash with memory loss—but the real shock came next: her memories had returned six years earlier.

Clara admitted she chose to stay “dead” because she had spent her entire childhood being compared to me. After the crash, she finally discovered who she was without being known as Sarah’s twin.

I understood her need for independence, but I couldn’t forgive the years of grief she caused our family. Still, we agreed to start again slowly—not as the identical girls we once were, but as two very different women.

For the first time, neither of us had to disappear for the other to exist.
