I spent months saving to surprise my fiancé with the PS5 he always wanted. On Christmas, he proudly gave his parents a renovated apartment, then handed me a note that read, “Your gift is the privilege of becoming my wife.”
The real shock came when his mother revealed the renovations had been funded with money I’d contributed to our wedding savings. When I confronted him, he casually said, “We’re getting married. Your money is basically mine.”
I took off my engagement ring, returned the PS5, recovered what I could, and called off the wedding. It hurt to lose my fiancé, but staying with someone who treated me like a bank account would have cost me far more.
