A simple phone call from my son made me go see him—and it turned out to mean more than I expected

My son Ethan had always been fiercely independent, so when he called from college just to say, “I love you, Mom,” I knew something was wrong.
Trusting my instincts, I flew to see him without telling him. When I arrived at his dorm, I found him overwhelmed, exhausted, and quietly falling apart under the pressure of college life.
I stayed for three days, listening, helping, and reminding him he didn’t have to face everything alone. By the time I left, he looked like himself again.
That trip reminded me that sometimes the best thing a parent can do is simply show up when their child needs them most.
