A warning that “some people will die” has renewed fears of nuclear war and raised a key question: where in the U.S. is safest?
Experts say there is no truly safe place, but some areas may be less likely to face immediate strikes, such as parts of the East Coast and Northeast, including Maine and Vermont.
States near nuclear missile silos — like Montana, Wyoming, the Dakotas, Nebraska, and Colorado — are considered higher-risk targets.
Still, analysts stress that in a full nuclear conflict, no part of the United States is completely safe.
