I discovered this while cleaning my son’s room

I thought I had found something alive on the dusty floor—a pale, curved shape tucked in the corner that looked unsettlingly organic. The longer I stared, the more my mind filled in worst-case scenarios.

My son watched from the doorway, unsure if he should be worried too. Neither of us could identify it, and the silence made it feel even more disturbing.

Finally, I used a tissue to pick it up, expecting something unpleasant—but it was just an old piece of chewing gum covered in dust and debris. The fear disappeared instantly, replaced by relief and embarrassment.

We both laughed, realizing how easily the mind turns the unknown into something frightening when it lacks context.
