The Locked Drawer My Father Never Let Anyone Open

My father always kept one drawer locked, never explaining what was inside. After he passed away, I finally found the key and opened it.

Inside was a letter revealing he had once refused a major promotion to stay home and care for my ill younger brother — a sacrifice he never told anyone about.

He wrote, “I didn’t want gratitude for loving my family. That’s what fathers are supposed to do.”

I had spent my life thinking he settled for less, but I realized he had quietly given up everything for us.
