Heart Surgeon Explains How Weed Affects Your Body As New Warnings Surface About Serious Side Effects

A growing health warning is drawing attention as a heart surgeon explains what smoking cannabis may be doing to the body—especially the heart and lungs.
While marijuana is now legal in many parts of the U.S., doctors say legalization doesn’t mean it is risk-free.
Cardiac specialist Dr. Jeremy London has warned that smoking weed can increase the risk of coronary disease and heart attack by 1.3 to 2 times compared to non-users. He also notes that some regular users show serious lung damage similar to heavy cigarette smokers.
Medical experts are also raising concerns about cannabis hyperemesis syndrome (CHS)—a condition linked to long-term use that can cause severe nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain lasting for hours or even days.
A separate study found cannabis users may have a 50% higher risk of heart attack, while the American Lung Association continues to caution against smoking anything due to long-term lung damage.
