The Checkout Surprise I’ll Never Forget

I went to the supermarket with only enough money for bread and milk—just the bare essentials.
At the checkout, I noticed the person behind me quietly adding items to my bill: meat, cheese, salami… everything I’d been wanting but couldn’t afford. I was about to tell the cashier there must be a mistake.
Then I turned around.
It was my dad.
He was standing there with a cart full of groceries, smiling as if it were nothing. In that moment, something so simple suddenly felt overwhelming.
I never imagined that ordinary groceries could feel like the biggest gift I’d ever received.
But they did.
