I Spent My 50th Birthday Giving Instead of Receiving—and It Changed Me Forever

Instead of celebrating my 50th birthday with a party, I chose to celebrate strangers.
I prepared 50 envelopes filled with money and “invited” people to receive random acts of kindness in honor of my birthday. What happened that day changed me forever.
At a gas station, I met a struggling family who couldn’t afford fuel while rushing to a funeral. I paid for their tank—what followed was tears, gratitude, and a moment I’ll never forget.
In a thrift store, I helped an older man preparing for a job interview buy a full suit, shoes, and tie.
Throughout the day, I paid for groceries, meals, diapers, and small needs for strangers who were silently struggling.
That birthday taught me something powerful: the greatest celebrations are the ones where you give, not receive.
