The Interview I Should’ve Walked Out Of

I took time off work, paid for my own flight, and covered my hotel just for a job opportunity I truly wanted. I arrived prepared, hopeful, and ready to prove myself.
But the interview started with a shock:
“I have no intention of hiring you. This is just a courtesy because I know your brother.”
Still, I completed the full day of interviews—8 hours of polite smiles, forced conversations, and quiet frustration. It felt humiliating, but I stayed professional and finished what I started.
Weeks later, they called back. They couldn’t find anyone else and offered me the job.
This time, I said no.
Because respect matters. Effort matters. And how people treat you when they don’t need you says everything about how they’ll treat you when they do.
Never accept opportunity without respect.
