I’m 33F, married 6 years to my husband (37M). His ex died years ago, leaving a daughter, Kate (6), with her grandmother. Now the grandmother is seriously ill, and my husband wants us to adopt Kate.
We’ve struggled with infertility for years, and I feel forced into parenting a child tied to his past. His family pressures me constantly, guilt-tripping me with messages like:
- “This child is part of our family now.”
- “You’d be heartless to let her end up in foster care.”
- “Maybe life gave you a child in a different way than you imagined.”
I love my husband, but I feel trapped. Say yes, and I lose my boundaries and choice. Say no, and our marriage could collapse.
