Understanding the Difference Between Calluses and Plantar Warts

Many people assume every hard patch on the foot is just a callus—but sometimes it’s actually a plantar wart, and treating it incorrectly can make it worse.

What’s the difference?
✔️ Calluses develop from pressure or friction, like tight shoes or long walks.
✔️ Plantar warts are caused by HPV, a virus that enters through tiny cuts in the skin.

How to spot a plantar wart:
• Small black dots may be visible
• Pain when squeezed from the sides
• Feels like stepping on a pebble

Why it matters:
Scraping or cutting it won’t remove the virus and may spread infection, especially in public showers or pools.
