I Left My Husband Over Christmas Gifts… But What His Daughter Said Next Broke Me

I always believed love isn’t measured by money, but by fairness and effort. After a difficult year financially, my husband and I agreed to spend $500 per child for Christmas. I carefully planned every gift for my 13-year-old son—even putting back a game that cost just $20 more to honor our agreement.

Then I discovered my husband had spent $2,000 on his daughter’s gifts, including a full gaming setup. When I confronted him, he told me his daughter “comes first” and said I could leave if I didn’t like it. In that moment, I realized the issue wasn’t money—it was respect and equality in our family.

I filed for divorce and moved out with my son, but days later his daughter came to see me in tears, saying she never wanted expensive gifts—she just wanted a present father and the family we had together. Now I’m torn between protecting my self-worth and not breaking the heart of a child who still feels like my own.
