First 2028 Democrat Announces They Are Not Running For President

Several prominent Democrats — including Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, and Gavin Newsom — are already being mentioned as possible contenders for the 2028 presidential election.

But one rising political star says he’s out.

Maryland Gov. Wes Moore confirmed he will not run for president in 2028, despite growing speculation about his national ambitions. Speaking to The Associated Press, Moore said plainly, “I’m not running,” adding he is also not seeking a vice-presidential role.

Moore explained his focus remains on governing Maryland and preparing for reelection, even as his appearances in key states like South Carolina continue to spark political buzz.

Meanwhile, Pete Buttigieg is fueling speculation of his own future plans. The former transportation secretary has increased media appearances and podcast interviews, expanding his national profile after deciding not to run for Michigan’s Senate or governor races.

With early conversations already shaping the 2028 race, many believe the Democratic Party’s next generation of leaders is beginning to emerge.
