Swollen legs could be more than circulation problems — sometimes they signal something serious.

Leg swelling (edema) is often linked to heart or kidney issues, but in some cases, it may be an early warning sign of pancreatic cancer — a disease that’s difficult to detect because symptoms appear late.

One possible cause is deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clot that can cause swelling, pain, warmth, or skin discoloration. Certain cancers, including pancreatic cancer, can increase blood clotting and block normal circulation.

Sudden or unexplained leg swelling — especially after age 50 — should always be checked by a doctor.

Early testing and medical evaluation can help identify hidden health problems sooner.
