Are Red Circular Rashes on the Arm Contagious? Here’s What You Should Know

Noticing red, round patches on your skin can be alarming. One common cause is ringworm, a contagious fungal infection that spreads through skin contact, shared towels, clothing, or even pets. It usually shows as a red, circular rash with a clearer center and mild itching.
Not all round rashes are infectious. Eczema and psoriasis can cause similar patches but are non-contagious. Eczema often looks dry or crusty, while psoriasis creates thick, silvery plaques on elbows, knees, or scalp.
If your rash spreads, itches, or won’t improve, see a doctor. A simple test can confirm ringworm, which usually clears within weeks with antifungal treatment.
