What a Simple Goodbye Taught Me About Timing and Trust

Sometimes a Pause Isn’t Rejection—It’s Care
We spent the evening like usual—curled on the couch, a movie playing quietly, laughing, and talking. It was simple, warm, perfect.
At the door, I leaned in for a goodbye kiss. He stepped back—hesitant, not unkind. My heart sank.
Ten minutes later, he called me outside. Under the streetlight, nervous but honest, he explained: he cared, and that scared him. He didn’t want to rush something important.
We didn’t solve everything that night, but I left lighter, understanding that sometimes a pause isn’t rejection—it’s love and care.
