“She won’t eat or sleep,” the father whispered. “She says she needs to confess to the police.”
A sergeant knelt down in front of the little girl.
“You can tell me,” he said gently.
She sniffled. “I committed a crime.”
The officer stayed calm. “What happened?”
Tears spilled. “I hit my brother… and now he has a bruise. He’s going to die. Please don’t put me in jail.”
The officer pulled her into a hug.
