Homeless Man Saves Mother and Infant from Dickinson Bayou Crash, Authorities Report

A 22-year-old mother and her 8-month-old baby are recovering after being rescued from Dickinson Bayou Thursday night, officials said.
The crash happened around 9:40 p.m. on FM 517 when the woman reported hitting a bridge curb, losing control of her minivan, and plunging into the bayou. A homeless man camping nearby witnessed the crash and used a canoe to rescue both victims from the water.
Dickinson police arrived as he brought them to shore, and the Dickinson Volunteer Fire Department assisted in securing and removing the submerged vehicle. The mother and child were taken to UTMB in League City and later released with no serious injuries, according to Dickinson PD Detective Lupe Vasquez.
