The Appointment at Eight

I answered a call from an unknown number, thinking it was a delivery update. A woman asked for “Tim.” Instead of correcting her, I impulsively went along with it. She mentioned her husband was away and asked if I could come by that evening, which made the situation seem far more scandalous than it really was.
Curious and bored with my routine life, I decided to play along and went to the address she mentioned—a flat with a blue door. When she welcomed me inside, I quickly realized the truth: she wasn’t expecting an affair. She thought I was a structural engineer there to help solve an urgent design problem.
Before I could explain, the real Tim arrived. Awkward confessions followed, but instead of anger, everyone laughed. I stayed, shared pizza, and watched them work late into the night.
I went looking for a thrill and found something better—an unexpected, genuine human moment. Sometimes the best adventures happen when plans fall apart and reality steps in.
