When he got there, the smoke was so dense he couldn\u2019t get clear shots. In a rush, he phoned his office and asked them to arrange a plane. His editor promised, \u201cDon\u2019t worry\u2014it\u2019ll be waiting for you at the airport.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"386\" data-end=\"602\">Sure enough, when he arrived at the small rural airstrip, a plane was already running on the runway. He grabbed his gear, jumped in, and shouted, \u201cLet\u2019s go, let\u2019s go!\u201d The pilot taxied into the wind and lifted off.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"604\" data-end=\"699\">\u201cHead to the north side of the fire,\u201d the photographer instructed. \u201cI need a few low passes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"701\" data-end=\"749\">The pilot frowned. \u201cAnd why would we do that?\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"751\" data-end=\"826\">\u201cBecause I\u2019m here to take pictures!
