After a month in the hospital recovering from a car accident, I finally returned home to my husband, Wesley, and our 12-year-old daughter, Hannah.

Then Hannah whispered, “Mom, Dad’s been inviting women over almost every night.”

She said they carried huge bags and spent hours with him in the garage. I trusted Wesley, but soon my favorite dresses and shoes disappeared, the garage stayed locked, and I found an unfamiliar gold earring beneath the sofa.

His vague answers only deepened my suspicions.

One evening, I pretended to go out and watched three women arrive with large bags. Following them to the garage, I overheard one say, “Your wife would never wear something like that.”

I burst inside, demanding answers—and froze.

The garage held sewing machines, mannequins, fabrics, and my missing clothes. The women were seamstresses and a designer Wesley had hired to create custom dresses for me. He was also building a walk-in closet. The earring belonged to one of them.

“After the accident, I realized how close I came to losing you,” he explained. “I wanted to do something that would make you happy.”

I’d walked into that garage expecting betrayal. Instead, I found a husband who had spent weeks planning a loving welcome home
