After a long shift, I came home to find a silver Porsche in my space. When I politely asked the driver to move, he smirked. “My car costs more than your rent, sweetheart. You can park somewhere else.”

Before I could respond, our building manager, Martin, stepped around the corner. He recognized the Porsche from nearly two weeks of parking complaints and asked the driver, Mason, for his visitor permit. Instead, Mason produced an access card belonging to his girlfriend, Claire.

Martin brought Claire downstairs, and Mason’s story quickly unraveled. She had lent him her spare card to carry boxes upstairs, and he’d claimed he returned it. Instead, he had been using it to enter the private lot and take residents’ parking spaces while telling her he parked three blocks away.

“So because your car is expensive, everybody else’s space should be yours?” Claire demanded.

Martin ordered Mason to move immediately or face towing. After photographing the license plate, Martin opened the gate and warned him that returning without authorization would get his Porsche towed.

The next morning, management credited my account $150 for the inconvenience.
