My daughter Hannah died giving birth to Audrey, and I raised my granddaughter in her place. Every year, we lit a white candle for Hannah beside Audrey\u2019s birthday cake. I thought it helped Audrey feel close to her mother.<\/p>\n

Just before Audrey turned 15, I found a box Hannah had hidden for her. Inside was a letter asking me never to make Audrey feel responsible for her death\u2014and to let her birthday belong to her.
