My 11-year-old daughter Carly spent two weekends building a little free library outside our home. Neighbors loved it and quickly filled its shelves with donated books.<\/p>\n

But the next morning, Carly discovered an anonymous warning inside: \u201cREMOVE THIS. YOU WERE WARNED.\u201d Later, someone left highlighted neighborhood rules beneath the library, even though it stood on our property and blocked nothing.<\/p>\n

I posted the notes in our neighborhood Facebook group, where residents immediately defended Carly. Suspicion fell on Melissa, a neighbor who had publicly praised the library but privately complained it might attract strangers.<\/p>\n

Melissa eventually admitted leaving the warnings because she \u201cdidn\u2019t want to look cruel.\u201d After realizing how much she had hurt Carly, she apologized.<\/p>\n
