After years of avoiding restaurants because of cruel comments about her weight, my mom finally agreed to celebrate her 65th birthday at her favorite Italian restaurant.<\/p>\n

The evening was perfect until a woman at the next table looked at her tiramisu and loudly said, \u201cMaybe skip dessert this time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mom\u2019s smile vanished, but before we could leave, the restaurant owner rushed over and ordered the woman out. Then came the emotional twist: he recognized my mom as the woman who had believed in his cooking more than 40 years earlier.<\/p>\n

A photograph of them still hung on the wall with a plaque thanking her for inspiring his career. Before serving another slice of tiramisu, he smiled and said, \u201cMaybe don\u2019t skip dessert this time.\u201d<\/p>\n
