However, social media has been extremely critical against diet culture in recent years as the body positivity movement has gained steam, and people are trying to appreciate the bodies they were given by God rather than the ones celebrities have paid for with plastic surgeries and various other procedures \u2013 but soda companies are fighting against the popular belief that sodas are generally unhealthy to consume and that \u201cdiet\u201d drinks support a negative body image amid the rage against diet culture at large.<\/p>\n<p>Popular brands like Canada Dry, 7Up, and A&amp;W have already made the switch from \u201cdiet\u201d drinks to \u201czero sugar\u201d beverages. The new labels are appearing on beverage containers across the country as these brands try to sell more of their sodas to young people who are averse to diet culture in general.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1845\" src=\"https:\/\/newsdelivered.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/diet-sodas-1.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 306px) 100vw, 306px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newsdelivered.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/diet-sodas-1.jpg 306w, https:\/\/newsdelivered.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/diet-sodas-1-241x300.jpg 241w\" alt=\"\" width=\"306\" height=\"381\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cYounger people just don\u2019t like the word \u2018diet,\u2019\u201d said Greg Lyons, chief marketing officer at PepsiCo Beverages North America, according to CNN.<\/p>\n<p>Pepsi has been selling a zero-sugar beverage for years now. When Donald Trump was elected to be the first reality TV star president back in 2016, Pepsi rebranded their Pepsi Max offering as Pepsi Zero Sugar.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1846\" src=\"https:\/\/newsdelivered.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/diet-sodas-4-253x500-1.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 253px) 100vw, 253px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newsdelivered.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/diet-sodas-4-253x500-1.jpg 253w, https:\/\/newsdelivered.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/diet-sodas-4-253x500-1-152x300.jpg 152w\" alt=\"\" width=\"253\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo Gen Z wants to be on a diet these days,\u201d Lyons confessed, according to CNN. \u201cIt\u2019s about the freedom to choose what they want without feeling guilty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Canada Dry is also attempting to rebrand their diet ginger ale as \u201cginger zero,\u201d according to CNN. A&amp;W has already made the switch from calling its calorie-free root beer a \u201cdiet drink\u201d to a \u201czero sugar drink.\u201d Customers have been asking the company for years why it was still calling its product a diet beverage, according to A&amp;W Brand President Susan Senecal.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1847\" src=\"https:\/\/newsdelivered.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/diet-sodas-3-287x500-1.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 287px) 100vw, 287px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newsdelivered.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/diet-sodas-3-287x500-1.jpg 287w, https:\/\/newsdelivered.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/diet-sodas-3-287x500-1-172x300.jpg 172w\" alt=\"\" width=\"287\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cZero Sugar Diet Ginger Ale is a clear example of how we are giving people choices and helping them find what works for them,\u201d Senecal told CNN.<\/p>\n<p>In reality, those who advocate against diet culture are not as anti-diet as people might think they are \u2013 rather, most people who are not down with diet culture simply feel that they should be able to make their own decisions about whether or not they want to cut out soda from their diets, and people, in general, do not like the idea of being told how much sugar is \u201cacceptable\u201d by anyone other than themselves.<\/p>\n<p>The new labels should be hitting store shelves soon in order to avoid any backlash against the soda companies themselves.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1848\" src=\"https:\/\/newsdelivered.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/diet-sodas-2-301x500-1.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 301px) 100vw, 301px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newsdelivered.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/diet-sodas-2-301x500-1.jpg 301w, https:\/\/newsdelivered.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/diet-sodas-2-301x500-1-181x300.jpg 181w\" alt=\"\" width=\"301\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Diet culture has been struggling for years now, and it doesn\u2019t look like that is going to change any time soon. For the companies who are trying to stay afloat in this environment, rebranding their diet sodas as \u201czero sugar\u201d drinks seems like the best option.<\/p>\n<p>However, whether or not this will be successful in the long run is yet to be seen. It\u2019s possible that people will see this for what it is \u2013 a cheap ploy by soda companies to make more money \u2013 and continue avoiding diet culture altogether.
