Sarah looked up from washing the dishes, thinking the sound of running water had distorted

The accusation hung heavy in the air, an unwelcome presence in their kitchen. Sarah’s stomach tightened with disbelief and hurt as she steadied her voice.

“John, I’m not hiding anything. I just don’t understand why you’re saying this,” she said quietly. “We’ve raised Tim together. You’ve never doubted him before.”

John crossed his arms. “I just need to be sure. People talk, Sarah. And… Tim doesn’t really look like me.”

Her heart sank. “You’re letting rumors decide our life?” she asked, voice trembling. “Tim is our son — your son.”

For a moment, John’s eyes softened, but the doubt quickly returned. “It’s not that simple. The thought’s been eating at me. I need to know.”

Silence filled the room. Fighting tears, Sarah took a deep breath. “Fine. Let’s do the DNA test. I have nothing to hide. But when the results come, I hope this ends once and for all.”

John nodded, relief flickering across his face.

In the days that followed, the house felt colder. Tim’s laughter echoed through the tension as Sarah watched John, searching for the man she once trusted completely. All she could do now was wait — and hope the truth would heal what doubt had broken.
