Donald Trump claims he invented a ‘new word’
Trump’s New Drug Pricing Plan: Bold Move, Bizarre Claim
At a recent press conference, Trump unveiled a sweeping plan to slash U.S. prescription drug prices by up to 80%, aiming to align them with European rates. Calling it one of the most impactful executive orders in history, he declared, “The rest of the world will pay more, and America will pay significantly less.”
But it was his next statement that caught attention:
“We’re doing something I call equalizing. It’s a new word I came up with.”
The internet quickly responded. Language experts pointed out that “equalize” has existed since at least the 15th century. Tech commentator Farrukh Younus even gave a brief history lesson, tracing the word back to Latin roots and documented English use as early as 1559.
So while the drug pricing shift may be new, the word “equalize” certainly isn’t.
