A Massachusetts mom is warning parents after a frightening beach incident left her 10-year-old son hospitalized with hypothermia—on a hot summer day.
On July 4, Heather Cassini took her family to Hampton Beach, New Hampshire. Her son Declan had been playing in the ocean when he suddenly grew pale, disoriented, and collapsed. Heather, who is pregnant, panicked as he drifted in and out of consciousness, vomiting and unable to stand.
Fortunately, several nearby nurses rushed to help until paramedics arrived. Doctors later confirmed Declan had developed hypothermia from the 52-degree water—a danger Heather says she never imagined on a scorching day.
Declan has since recovered, but Heather hopes her viral post serves as a warning: even in summer, cold ocean water can put kids at serious risk.
