To see someone’s true character, look at just these 2 things

Truly understanding a person doesn’t take years—it can take minutes if you know what to observe. Carl Jung believed true character shows in unguarded, everyday moments, not grand declarations.

Two key clues:

  1. How they treat those who can’t help them – Kindness to strangers or service workers reflects empathy; rudeness signals arrogance.

  2. How they handle frustration – Calm, responsible responses reveal maturity; lashing out exposes insecurity or poor self-control.

Other signs include their sense of humor, how they speak about others, how well they listen, and how they wield power. As Jung noted, character is revealed not in comfort, but in subtle, quiet moments—if you’re paying attention.
