My Mother-in-Law Sabotaged My Alarm Before My Final Exam to ‘Teach Me a Lesson’ – But Now She’s the One Facing Consequences

My mother-in-law nearly ruined my future by tampering with my alarm before my final exam, insisting I “learn my priorities.” She almost cost me everything I had worked for—but karma came back fast.
When Lydia moved in for three weeks during my finals, she made my life miserable. She dismissed my nursing degree as a “hobby,” pressured me to abandon studying for family events, and guilt-tripped me daily. On the night before my biggest exam, she threw herself a fake “birthday dinner,” and when I refused, she secretly reset my alarm. I woke up at 9:30—the exact time my exam started.
By some miracle, I managed to plead for a makeup test, but the stress was unbearable. Lydia just smirked and told me it “wouldn’t matter once I had babies.” That’s when I decided to teach her a lesson.
The night before her early flight, I set every clock in the house three hours ahead. She panicked, raced to the airport in the middle of the night, and realized too late she’d been duped. Her furious texts went unanswered until morning, when I simply replied: “I thought you liked surprises—just like the one you gave me.”
After that, Lydia never messed with my studies again. I passed with top marks, graduated summa cum laude, and now work at a children’s hospital. In the end, she was right about one thing—priorities matter. Mine just didn’t include tolerating sabotage.
