My MIL Demanded a Boy, My Husband Insisted on a Girl, So I Threw a Baby Shower They’ll Never Forget — Story of the Day

I spent years dreaming of this baby — until I told my husband, and he asked if it was too late to undo it. Days later, his mother said, “If it’s a girl, you’ll have to leave.”
Aiden grew colder each day. No excitement, no warmth — just silence. Then one afternoon, I came home early and heard him with his mother.
“How could you let her get pregnant?” she hissed.
“I was going to leave her,” he said. “Veronica doesn’t want kids — she’s perfect.”
Veronica. His mistress.
They planned to break me. But I didn’t cry — I planned.
At the baby shower, I invited her. Veronica walked in, calm as ever. Aiden froze.
“Everyone,” I smiled, “today’s reveal is special. Veronica will cut the cake.”
She sliced it open — no pink, no blue. Red.
Inside was my wedding ring.
I held it up. “You forgot this.” Then I slid divorce papers across the table.
“And Gloria,” I added, “you don’t have grandchildren anymore.”
I placed my hand on my belly.
“Because it’s a girl.”
And I walked out — finally free.
